History

The company was founded by Paddy Walsh in 1947 operating from his own home in Beckenham, Kent. By 1951 the company had grown, employing 3 people including Paddy’s son Desmond and took on it’s first premises. The company moved twice more before settling in it’s well known former head office location in Beckenham in 1968.

In 1973 they acquired E Gray & Son, and used it’s prominently placed building on the Clerkenwell Road as the Central London branch for the whole business. In 1988 Walsh opened a branch in the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter and in 1996 moved their London branch, more centrally into Hatton Garden.

In 2002 Desmond Walsh, now having been Chairman for over 40 years, decided to retire and the company was passed over to the senior management team, including current CEO Patrick Sheehan. In 2010 the decision was made that the company had again, outgrown the capabilities of their Beckenham site and the move was undertaken to shift the head office operations, warehousing and Grayson’s workshops to a unit on Biggin Hill Airport. From here, the company continues to grow it’s customer base, product offering and services.
