Another 30 year landmark for one of the Walsh team – our Birmingham Branch Manager, Darrel Wilson (on the in the right in the top picture).

Darrel also joined us in 1995, after an interview where, legend has it, he wowed the then MD Desmond with his knowledge….of Rugby. Daz, as he is affectionally known, quickly showed how practical and adaptable he was, a perfect fit for the company and was frequently out with fellow recent Brum starter, Lee Campbell both for work and socially.

At the tender age of 23, Daz was made Branch Manager; considerable responsibility at such a young age. He’s done a fantastic job over the years, although we can’t comment if it may have had something to do with his hairline changing from 90’s curtains to his now well loved “sleek and polished” look.

Lee Campbell says “One of his main strengths is man management. He is very affable, and is excellent at explaining how things need to be done without being condescending.”

Like most of our 30+ers Daz has grown up with us, marrying the lovely Becky and raising 2 children who have recently graduated from University. Outside of work, Darrel loves the coast, and Cornwall in particular. Taking his dog on long walks before having a well-earned pint or two of Tribute ale. He's a big Aston Villa fan, and regularly attends matches at Villa Park.

Darrel’s other role has been visiting customers, schools and attending trade fairs from Scotland to the South coast. He was exhibition manager for the NEC trade fair, where he attended every show for a quarter of a century. He now uses his renowned expertise and knowledge demonstrating machinery, such as laser welders, and GRS stone setting equipment at the London Olympia jewellery show.

As well as this, Daz is a well-known face working in tandem with Lee Campbell, at the Company of Master Jewellers trade events. They are generally referred to by many as "the Walsh boys" although at almost 50 not so boyish now!
