LUXI® Pink Polishing Compound is a high-gloss finishing compound designed to produce a deep, even mirror lustre on platinum, palladium white gold, stainless steel, Co–Cr and selected titanium grades. It can also be used to complete polishing on zamak, pewter, zinc and tin alloys, aluminium, magnesium and lead.
LUXI Pink is a finishing compound rather than a first-stage cutting compound. It should only be used once the geometry, repairs, abrasive preparation and first polishing stage have been fully completed. All visible marks from the final abrasive and previous polishing stage should be removed before progressing to Pink. It is not designed to remove deep scratches, correct shape defects or compensate for incomplete preparation.
With a Cut rating of 4 and Gloss rating of 9, LUXI Pink provides minimal material removal while producing a high level of surface lustre. It further smooths the already formed surface and creates an even, stable mirror reflection without significantly altering the geometry, edges or relief of the piece.
For best results, LUXI Pink should be used with a separate, clean white unstitched Calico wheel. The soft, unstitched construction provides controlled contact for finishing, making it particularly suitable for achieving an even mirror surface. Do not use a wheel that has previously been used with a first-stage or other finishing compound, as contamination from coarser compounds can affect the final finish.
For a wheel approximately 150 mm in diameter, LUXI recommends a starting speed of 2500–3000 rpm. Apply the compound sparingly to the clean wheel and work in short passes, keeping the workpiece moving and regularly inspecting the surface. Avoid excessive pressure, heat or compound, as an overloaded wheel can reduce direct contact with the surface and produce cloudiness rather than a clean mirror finish.
On platinum, LUXI Pink can follow a completed LUXI Black or LUXI Gray first stage, depending on the abrasive preparation and surface condition. LUXI Green also provides an independent low-temperature polishing route and is not a mandatory stage before Pink. On stainless steel and Co–Cr, Pink can follow a fully completed Gray or Black first stage. On softer non-ferrous metals such as zamak, pewter, zinc, tin, aluminium, magnesium and lead, Pink follows the appropriate LUXI Brown first stage. On selected hard bronzes, it may follow a completed LUXI Yellow first stage where a more pronounced mirror finish is required.
Once polishing is complete, remove all remaining compound and metal residue, allow the item to cool and inspect the clean surface under directed light. The finished surface should have an even, uniform mirror reflection, with no remaining marks from the previous stage and with edges, relief and intended geometry intact.
LUXI Formulation
LUXI compounds are water-based, silica-free and animal-fat-free, offering a modern alternative to traditional polishing compounds.
The silica-free formulation contains no crystalline silica, avoiding the specific respiratory hazards associated with inhaling respirable crystalline silica dust. Appropriate dust extraction and personal protective equipment should always be used during polishing, but the absence of crystalline silica is an important consideration when choosing a polishing compound.
The animal-fat-free formulation uses a water-soluble binder rather than traditional animal fats. This helps create a cleaner polishing process, with residues that are easier to remove from the workpiece, polishing wheels and equipment. The water-based formulation also helps reduce the greasy residue often associated with traditional fat-based compounds.
Together, these properties make LUXI a cleaner, modern alternative to traditional polishing compounds, combining easier cleanup and a more considered formulation with the controlled finishing characteristics required for professional jewellery and metalworking applications.
