Luxi Yellow Aggressive Polishing Compound - TP2510

LUXI® Yellow Polishing Compound is a controlled first-stage polishing compound designed for gold, silver, bronze and brass when LUXI Blue does not provide sufficient cutting action. It offers increased material removal while maintaining a good level of gloss, making it an effective step between LUXI Blue and the more aggressive LUXI Gray.

LUXI Yellow is intended for use after proper abrasive preparation, helping to reduce remaining preparation marks, refine the surface and establish an even working surface before progressing to a finer finishing compound. It is not intended to replace sanding or grinding, or to correct deep scratches, casting defects or other significant surface imperfections.

With a Cut rating of 7 and Gloss rating of 7, LUXI Yellow provides more cutting action than LUXI Blue while maintaining a balanced level of gloss. It is particularly useful where the surface is correctly prepared but Blue is working too slowly or is not sufficiently active for the size, geometry or condition of the piece.

LUXI Yellow can be used with appropriate cotton and stitched polishing wheels, with the choice of wheel depending on the material, surface area and amount of cutting required. For large, flat surfaces, a more active wheel can help increase the effectiveness of the first polishing stage without simply applying additional compound. LUXI recommends keeping the wheel clean and using only a small amount of compound so that the wheel remains the main working body of the process.

Apply the compound sparingly to a clean, correctly prepared polishing wheel and work in controlled passes, regularly inspecting the surface. Avoid excessive pressure or overloading the wheel with compound. If preparation marks remain clearly visible, check the abrasive preparation, wheel condition and compound selection rather than attempting to compensate with additional compound.

Once the first-stage surface is even and properly formed, remove any remaining compound and metal residue before progressing to a finer LUXI finishing compound. Use a separate clean wheel or tool for the finishing stage to prevent contamination from the Yellow compound.

LUXI Formulation

LUXI compounds are water-based, silica-free and animal-fat-free, offering a modern alternative to traditional polishing compounds.

The silica-free formulation contains no crystalline silica, avoiding the specific respiratory hazards associated with inhaling respirable crystalline silica dust. Appropriate dust extraction and personal protective equipment should always be used during polishing, but the absence of crystalline silica is an important consideration when choosing a polishing compound.

The animal-fat-free formulation uses a water-soluble binder rather than traditional animal fats. This helps create a cleaner polishing process, with residues that are easier to remove from the workpiece, polishing wheels and equipment. The water-based formulation also helps reduce the greasy residue often associated with traditional fat-based compounds.

Together, these properties make LUXI a cleaner, modern alternative to traditional polishing compounds, combining easier cleanup and a more considered formulation with the controlled cutting and polishing characteristics required for professional jewellery and metalworking applications.
