LUXI® Red Polishing Compound is a clean, rouge-style finishing compound designed to produce a high-gloss finish on prepared gold and silver surfaces. It provides a familiar red polishing compound appearance while offering the controlled, clean-working characteristics of the LUXI system.

LUXI Red is intended for the finishing stage, after the surface has been correctly prepared and the first polishing stage has removed the visible marks left by abrasive preparation. It is not designed to remove deep scratches, correct surface defects or replace proper abrasive preparation and first-stage polishing.

With a Cut rating of 3 and Gloss rating of 9, LUXI Red provides very light corrective action while producing a high level of surface gloss. It is particularly suited to gold and silver where a clean, refined and highly lustrous final surface is required.

For best results, use LUXI Red with a clean, dedicated finishing wheel that has not previously been contaminated with a coarser polishing compound. Apply the compound sparingly and work in controlled passes, allowing the wheel to remain the main working body of the process. Excessive compound or pressure can reduce the effectiveness of the polishing contact and may leave unwanted residue on the surface.

LUXI Red is particularly useful where the familiar working characteristics of a rouge-style finishing compound are desired, while maintaining the cleaner formulation of the LUXI system. It can be incorporated into the final polishing stage for gold and silver once the surface is already smooth, even and free from visible preparation marks.

After finishing, thoroughly clean the workpiece and inspect the surface under good lighting. The finished surface should have an even, consistent high-gloss reflection, with no remaining scratches, preparation marks or cloudy areas. Where the item is being prepared for plating or another coating, ensure all polishing residue and removed metal have been completely removed before proceeding.

LUXI Formulation

LUXI compounds are water-based, silica-free and animal-fat-free, offering a modern alternative to traditional polishing compounds.

The silica-free formulation contains no crystalline silica, avoiding the specific respiratory hazards associated with inhaling respirable crystalline silica dust. Appropriate dust extraction and personal protective equipment should always be used during polishing, but the absence of crystalline silica is an important consideration when choosing a polishing compound.

The animal-fat-free formulation uses a water-soluble binder rather than traditional animal fats. This helps create a cleaner polishing process, with residues that are easier to remove from the workpiece, polishing wheels and equipment. The water-based formulation also helps reduce the greasy residue often associated with traditional fat-based compounds.

Together, these properties make LUXI a cleaner, modern alternative to traditional polishing compounds, combining easier cleanup and a more considered formulation with the controlled finishing characteristics required for professional jewellery and metalworking applications.
